3 Comments Sony Ericsson and The Parlotones partner up

Article written by ATM on the 03 Sep 2009 , in the category

First thing I think do all the Parlotones guys have nice new Sony Ericsson phones and which phones they choose? I know that when the Boks got backed by HTC they all got nice phones and could choose but still didn’t know which phones they went with…

Anyway, so the new Sony Ericsson W995 Walkman phone will be loaded with The Parlotones third and new album ‘Stardust Galaxies’ + exclusive content + go into a competition to meet the band before a live show in November.

Now I know lots of peeps that absolutely adore The Parlotones and by doing this it might drive more peeps to get the phone, just not sure how well it will work – didn’t U2 try this with the iPod and now also they’re trying it with the Blackberry? Anyway it should build some nice PR for Sony Ericsson here in SA.

Here is a copy of their press release:

SONY ERICSSON ANNOUNCE EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PARTNERSHIP WITH SA’S BIGGEST SELLING ROCK BAND, THE PARLOTONES

Johannesburg, South Africa – 1 September 2009; Sony Ericsson is thrilled to announce a pioneering partnership with South Africa’s biggest selling rock band, The Parlotones at the launch of their third album, Stardust Galaxies – available exclusively on the impressive W995 Walkman®, “The Parlotones” edition phone.

Stardust Galaxies, will be available on the W995 Walkman® phone from mid September to end October and will also include exclusive content, wallpapers, a never seen before music video, ring tones and themes accessible via a bespoke microsite that owners of the W995 will be able to access. Lucky winners will also stand the chance to win both VIP tickets to and a meet and greet opportunity at the live shows in November this year that form part of the bands’ World Tour.

“Sony Ericsson has established Walkman® phones as credible digital music players and helped create a new genre of mobile phones. With our previous International music collaborations with Pink, Usher, and Lenny Kravitz, a local partnership was a natural strategic progression hence our partnership with The Parlotones, whom have made such a significant imprint on the local and International stage. The Parlotones have so much in common with the Sony Ericsson brand; innovation, passion, our forward thinking approach, all of which showcase our commitment to engaging our audiences through entertainment.” says Sonja Shear, Head of Marketing for Sony Ericsson South Africa.

Raphael Domalik, Managing Director of The Parlotones label, Sovereign Entertainment says of the partnership, “Sony Ericsson is such a funky brand that continues to raise the bar at making mobile phones more than just a phone – it’s about entertainment experiences that go beyond features and with our partnership, this is exactly what we want to deliver to our fans.”

I have taken the Sony Ericsson W995 from Vodashop on the Business call package.

Firstly, according to the add in the Vodashop brochure the Handset comes with a FREE PARLOTONES CD (my understanding- compact disc – hard copy) which I didn’t get. Vodashop staff knew nothing about a CD, even though it was printed in their brochure. They say its pre-loaded on the memory card, which it’s not.

Secondly, I called the Sony Ericsson call centre, they also say the Stardust Galaxies album is pre-loaded on the memory card. I got no further assistance, I was told to contact the Vodashop branch that I got the Handset from.

Thirdly, I Logged on to the microsite, entered my details and a pop up says I will be notified via sms as to when the Parlotones content will be available.

A couple days have passed and I have received no response regarding the content promised. According to all ads, receiving the Parlotones content is instant with no waiting period. One of my reasons for getting this Handset was that I would be one of the lucky people to get the Palotones third album “STARDUST GALAXIES” before the release date, but it seems that I would get the album when it ‘s in stores.

I regard this as false advertising.
