A customer contacted us today asking for advice on which phone to get so I am writing this up for people out there with the same question.
Cameras on the phone?
Been a Sony Ericsson phone they all 3 have very good cameras on the phone with the C905 trumping the other 2 phones with a huge 8MP camera and 3264×2448 pixels… the other 2 both have 3.15 MP and 2048x1536pixels. The 3.15MP is still pretty good as it is what I currently use on my Nokia E75
Verdict – The C905 wins here.
For me its important if the phone can fit snugly in my pocket and with these 3 phones in comparison the W595 comes out best with a depth of only 14mm while the C905 has 19mm and the W980i 16.9mm.
Data connectivity
One of the most important aspects of the phone is its ability to keep you connected to the internet. The C905 provides you with HSDPA up to 3.6 Mbps depending on your reception and if you are in contact you can connect to wireless networks with its 802.11 b/g wireless connection. The W595 and W980i both have HSDPA and EDGE capabilities for when you are mobile just like the C905 but they don’t have a wireless connection, this would just irritate me as my E75 stays connected all the time via my wireless network at home or work.
Verdict: – The C905 wins here.
Memory
The W980i has a beeft 8GB built in memory but unfortunately has no memory stick capability so you are stuck with that amount, luckily it is quite a large amount and not many people will need more. The C905 has 160MB built in memory but this can be increased through the Memory Stick and you might even get 2/8GB included with the phone if you are lucky. The W595 only has 40MB internal memory but again you can increase this with the Memory Stick.
Verdict – Tie between the C905 and the W980i
Navigation
The C905 wins here hands down with its GPS with A-GPS support, the W980i and W595 do not have GPS built in.
Email
All 3 phones come with email and MMS capabilities, the C905 does have the ability to show threaded views on your emails where the others don’t. With Gmail making the threaded view so popular this just gives the C905 that extra something over the other phones.
The W980i is a flip phone so actually its pretty thin while the C905 and the W595 are both slide phones which makes it a bit thicker (except the W595 is the thinnest at 14mm), I would choose the C905 based primarily on the wireless connectivity and the 8MP camera it comes with. The one downside to it is its 18/19mm thickness which could be a bit bulky in your pocket.
Cost
Currently the W595 would be the cheapest phone to get and next would be the W980i and lastly the C905 would be the most expensive if this affects your choice (based on the amount you’ll need to pay in).
